Managers may presume that their top talent won’t jump ship in today’s dismal economic environment. They may be think that they don’t need to focus on their best employees because they will cling to their current jobs even after unemployment levels drop. These assumptions are wrong, according to human resources consultant Dennis Zeleny. Writing at Forbes.com, Mr. Zelany said that even though “employment pressures have eased somewhat, the long-term reality is that there is still an underlying dearth of executive and managerial talent. This overall shortage will reassert itself once the economy begins recovering.”
